I’d always asked myself why people bother going to Paris. City of Love? Come on, what a cliché. The last thing I want from my city break is people in horse-drawn carriages asking me if I can take their photo. Dare I say it, Paris seemed a bit of a tourist trap. The Mona Lisa is pretty small, the Eiffel Tower pretty much just stands there and honestly, Parisians are pretty scary, what was the big deal? I hate all things touristy, I rather walk than make that long I-don’t-understand-French line at the Metro ticket machine, so it took me a while to warm to Paris. But eventually, by my third trip I decided to approach the city like I lived there, and because I live for quirky shopping, individualism and wine, Paris catwalked right into my icy, European heart.
